Why this lesson matters (even if you’re not coding)
Even if you’re building websites using page builders (like in WordPress), the same rules still apply behind the scenes. Page builders are also working with elements, sections, and containers — which means concepts like the box model and spacing directly affect how your website looks and behaves.
1) Box Model = How every element behaves
Every heading, image, button, column, or section is basically a box/container. Understanding the box model helps you understand:
- why elements shift or don’t align properly
- how spacing changes the layout
- how one element affects another around it
This is exactly why box model knowledge is essential for designing in page builders — because you’re still controlling boxes, even if you aren’t writing code.
2) Margin, Padding & Border = The real reason designs look “clean” or “messy”
- Margin creates space outside an element (gap between elements)
- Padding creates space inside an element (room around content)
- Border is the outline (helps define/visualize the box)
When you understand this, you can design confidently — whether you’re coding or using drag-and-drop tools.
3) Fonts & Colors = Basic styling that builds visual clarity
Good font choices and a consistent color system make a website look professional instantly. We also touch on using Google Fonts and keeping your design readable and balanced.
4) Basic Page Structure (Generic Model)
We also discuss a generic layout structure that helps beginners understand where things belong:
Header → Body/Main Content → Sidebar (optional) → Footer
This gives you a strong mental map of how websites are typically organized — and helps you build pages more logically going forward.
